Please consider signing this petition. Chailey school children have to cross the busy A275 every day in a 40mph zone with no crossing, even though the road cuts right through the village. A child was hit, fortunately not badly hurt, last week.

How Stephen's post gets four thumbs down, is beyond me.

It's probably nothing personal. Maybe, from a datacentre in some unfriendly country, bots search the internet for chat forums like this one and randomly down-thumb posts, just to undermine morale in a very small way. Either that or there's someone wierd who lurks in here.

Are there really people in foreign countries who are doing that Stephen? I like the idea of someone reading this forum to set up a bot to do that and it could explain why often, purely factual posts get thumbs down. Other theories.
It's very easy to touch the thumbs while scrolling through a thread and that would register as thumbs down. There are also some very vehement advocates of car use who post on here as evidenced by the regular anti cyclist rants. They could be opposed to the idea of anything that might slow them down. Good luck with the crossing. What is the main reason people give for opposing it.

Some people consider disliking a post different to how you may. They may dislike it not because they dislike the context but they dislike the prospect of a child being hit by a car.
