Does anyone remember the old tunnels you could climb down into in the Pells park? They've long gone but did they just fill them in and cover them over or were they dug out and removed?
I remember the little metal steps you climbed down but the tunnels were always full of dead leaves, rainwater and probably pee! Nowadays they would break every health and safety and hygeine law but we loved them.
My memory might be playing tricks but was there a kind of play house above them to climb up to?

A big wooden "fort" type building which had 3 levels on.
Remember them well.
Talking of H&S....did anyone remember the old "witches hat" roundabout in the old Malling Rec. Never saw anyone get their fingers trapped at the top but H&S deemed it unsafe. Many happy hours spent down Malling rec in the 70's

At the "Fort" there was also a long pole coming out of the second floor which you could shin along and then climb down another pole at the end - every parents nightmare - but great fun if you were a kid. I remember being terrified the first time but too proud to back down.
I also remember the witches hat at Malling, do you remember FA we all used to stand up on opposing sides and try to make it bang and jump as we rocked it as hard as we could from side to side. Also standing up on the see saw and rocking horse to see how hard you could make it go before falling off.
Oh great days.

Malling rec was my stomping ground too. the red horses face scared me, and the slide was sooo high. We would also turn the wooden seats of the swings over and over to shorten the chains and make them higher.

Cycling down the bank (before the community centre was built) towards the railings was fun....had at least one broken nose as a kid from going over the handle bars.
That full sized metal goal is still there next to the horses field (it's almost hidden by brambles now)....many happy hours spent down there with mates (Gary Edgar, Jeff Green, Stuart Crockford etc) playing football.

And do you remember the old wooden adventure playground up where the Riverlodge Surgery is now? It was great fun but soon after we moved from Ringmer to Lewes they tore it down to make way for the surgery.
