Hi all, I'd like to draw you attention to a fantastic sharing idea which I learned about and is hugely successful in the Netherlands. This is a free borrowing/lending scheme, brings the community together, is very easy, friendly and creates positive vibes all around (as we like to do good don't we?). It is called Peerby, we need at least 100 people before we can start so can I urge you to signup - you can always opt out if you're not happy. All my family and friends in NL are doing it, including my 70 year old mum. Whilst I was there my sister organised a bike for me, my mum lent a stranger her gazebo, my bro went on hols with a borrowed tent... All explained in the link. I think this could work in Lewes, why not give it a go?

I've signed up to this. If its gets enough people on board it works really well and can be as cost-saving as Freegle.

There has been lots of skills exchange schemes before but they all need people to participate in order for them to be successful.
I last used one called the 'Lets Scheme' in the 1990's in Brighton which worked quite well. Unfortunately the 'Lets' scheme in Lewes was I believe short lived.
I agree with Carmen that these schemes can be useful and a success but they require participation.

They do. So sign up!

I was a member of the Brites scheme in Brighton. At the time I think I was probably the only plumber on it. It worked very well for me.

I agree with BC.. I automatically just switch off thinking that its a waste of time when a website does that.. Shame, it could be a really interesting website but now I will never know.

There are many payday loan companies that are given a bad reputation just because a few people have been abusing the opportunity. Most people already understand that these loans are not to be abused, they should only be used if you really need a short term loan to get you over period. But a few go on to abuse this privilege and attempt to take out more than one loan at a time or roll the loan over and over again, and therefore end up in a vicious cycle.
