Without wanting to wage war on those who insist on driving their precious darlings to school every day, I was wondering if there are / have been any plans to install a pedestrian crossing of some description at Lewes train station.
It's blooming annoying trying to get across that road in the mornings with the school run.

There is a plan to put in a zebra crossing outside the florist and station wines, and a further crossing by the roundabout at the junction with mountfield road.

Excellent, thank you. Any idea when? Or where I can find out more about the plans?

Apparently every household should receive a leaflet in the post explaining the plans, there was an exhibition on at the church opposite waitrose at the weekend, but it wasn't publicised very well.

Thanks C.R
I expect that could work for the station.

I heard also that there are proposals for a pedestrian crossing across the Offham Road at the bottom of Prince Edwards Road area. It would be suicide to use a crossing there.
On another topic but significant all the same, there seems to have been an increase in the number of vehicles exiting onto the Offham Road at the bottom of Prince Edwards Road. Maybe we genuinely now have drivers who cannot read. I dont know. One day one of these drivers will exit there just as one of the many speedsters coming up the Offham Road is there as well. It will be messy.

The visibility is often very bad at that junction, especially at about 9am, when any sun is directly in the eyes of drivers coming down the hill towards Lewes, and also when there is any mist/fog. I would be extremely wary of stepping out onto a zebra crossing there. A light-controlled crossing would be better.

I'm a Cliffe High Street shop keeper and I absolutely LOVE bombing out of the cobbled area into the junction with Morris Road without looking.
You could put a zebra crossing up there but I'd probably ignore it!

The proposed crossing at the Station is going to be in the wrong place though. I'd suggest that a lot of the people crossing that road are going from the station to the off-licence, cash point and taxi hq opposite or vice-versa. Given that most people would rather dice with death crossing teh road directly outside Waitrose to get to the bus station rather than use the crossings 50 yards in either direction, the chances of anyone walking up and back to a crossing outside the station are pretty much zero.
