I was given a ticket last year in June, I sent an appeal and they ignored it for a year with no response. A few weeks ago I received a letter from ZZPS saying I need to pay £160, I ignored it, and now I have received a letter from a solicitor saying I need to pay £196 within 14 days otherwise they will take me to court, I don't know what to do, I can't afford that, but in the letter they said the crown court has said it is legal. Help!!!

Have your day in Crown Court - then offer to pay @ £5. a month

You need to find out what happened with the appeal, contact BPA and IPC (they are members of both) and find out what happened.
Who did you send the appeal to, do you have a copy of it, you win by default if they haven't done anything.
Civil matters do not go to crown court (county court for individuals, or county/high court for businesses). It is not a ticket, it is an invoice.
Any chance you can share the solicitors letter (personal details covered up of course).
It might be worth calling them, point out you appealed, point out they ignored your appeal, offer to pay a token amount or the original amount to settle the invoice in full.

Please, get some proper legal advice. I wouldn't be taking advice from this forum on such a matter.

Yes good advice A person, she can't afford to pay the fine but by all means get some legal advice... There's plenty of forums that will give you better advice than most solicitor (for free and not at £300 an hour). But as I said contact BPA and IPC first, as any advice is different if the appeal was or wasn't received.

They’ve got 6 months from the the date of issue to prosecute or they can’t do anything. ZZPS are a front for indigo. They use all sorts of tricks to make it seem as though you have to pay but if they’ve missed the 6 months they’re just too late.
Check out pepipoo.co.uk for advice but don’t give any specifics of your ticket. ZZPS watch this forum and sent me a letter saying they’d seen me seeking advice there! The advice there is excellent - it’s saved me thousands.

PS - I guess the letter is from Wright Hassel? They don’t prosecute themselves they just advise their client (indigo?).
One important question - I take it this was in a private car park? Maybe the station?

We're u parked infront of laura Ashley by any chance? I was given a ticket there in 2013 and am still receiving threats. Generally if I get a ticket because I parked irresponsibly then I pay but this was ridiculous as I realised my error and moved car within 3 mins, the photo they provided was a side on view so I couldn't identify it as my car and it was issued out of the allotted timeframe. Plus at that time the car park wasn't even registered with any car parking authority or even online. It sounds similar as I now have letters from a solicitor but luckily I have a friend who's a barrister and he still says ignore them.
Ideally check it out, I used parking cowboys website for info and looked at official documents BPA. I think it's scaremongering, demanding letters in red ink, makes me so mad!!!! But also a little worried....

Yeah by Laura Ashley where the signs were so high I didn't see it I ran to the bank realised it was closed came back and went literally under a minuet as I ran, and I'm only 19 and scared I don't want court things but I was advices by a soliciter to make my self seem more hassle than I'm worth, I don't know what to do, I don't want to go to court I don't have time, I'm starting a new job, non of their signs were in regulation.

Instead of ignoring the charge as a lot of people seem to think is best (but clearly isn't), I just appealed through POPLA. The charge was ruled as unfair and that was the end of it.

Holly - don't panic. These guys are well versed in trying to make you pay up through pseudo-legal language. The letters that you have received will not say 'we will take you to court if you don't pay within 14 days' they say 'the client MAY take you to court unless...'. Unlike Penalty Charge Notices issued by the council which must be paid or you could end up with a criminal conviction, Parking Charge Notices (notice the difference?) are issued by private property contractors and are no more than invoices. Even if it did get to court, all that you could be made to pay is the original parking charge, not all the extras that are added on by Wright Haskell, ZZPS etc. Threats to pass on the matter to debt recovery agencies are just bluff. I have two cases on the go at the moment with many letters threatening to instigate court action but so far nothing has come if it. I've had letters stating that they wil give me a discount on what I 'owe' if I pay within a certain time frame. They are shuysters trying to make a fast buck. Try visiting the Private Parking Forum on the Consumer Action Group website and read up on the subject. There are a couple of forum veterans who will give you advice and point out where (if it ever does go to court) you can catch them out. Post as much information as possible and upload all the letters you have received (but redact your personal info, car reg and any of their references before doing so). It will give you some peace of mind. Above all, keep calm, don't lose your nerve and simply pay them. That is exactly how they make their cash. Also there is absolutely no need to spend money on any legal advice. It will be a waste of money. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Holly can u see ur number plate? I was initially issued with a letter which only depicted a side on view of a black car so I asked for further evidence it was actually my car- no answer. The car park wasn't registered at the time so POPLA couldn't help! I completely see why people just pay as it is scary but that's how they make their money by bullying people which is outrageous and immoral. I personally feel I have at least 3 reasons according to the BPA as to why my fine is not valid (outside allotted timeframe, can't identify vehicle, no period of grace given) so I'd have my day in court although can't see that happening. I might be being naive though....
Keep all your letters and correspondence. I'll see if I can find anything else to help u out.
