Hi we are getting married in Lewes soon and not totally aware of how full car parks get on a Sat which affects things. Any advice ie 'don't' or it's doable (eg around 1pm). Thanks
James

Parking will be free in all car parks for the next three Saturday's: special Xmas treat from the Council. Car parks always pretty busy on Saturdays. However there will be turnover in all car parks. 1.00 pm will be pretty busy for Christmas shopping and free parking .....

Not many shops period. Sales being just smoke and mirrors us Lewesians don't take any notice and most of us either don't need cars or can't afford them anyway. Can't your guest ride bicycles or use the bus?

The best advice is to not get married.

Depends on where you are marrying. If it's at the top end, the council's car park would be ok to use, it's huge and unlikely to have any more than a dozen cars in it on a Saturday. If it's middle or bottom end of town, North St car park should be fine. Neither are expensive to use all day.

Make sure you get a wedding video.
In 10 years time you can play it backwards to the time you were single!!!

If you're marrying at the Grange, County Hall car park might be useful.
It always seems pretty empty at weekends, and you can leave by the gate at the south-east corner of the site and cut through the twitten to the bottom of Rotten Row. It's not far to walk to the Grange from there.

so many cynical old men no we are just doing the Town Hall so I'm thinking the council car park which I assume is the one next to Southover Rd would be a good bet for people?

Brighton & Hove Albion are playing away on 9 January, so that's a lot of parking that won't be happening in Lewes.

The closest parking to the Town Hall is either the Needlemakers or the little one at the top of East St, on the left which isn't so visible so it doesn't always fill up. There's also one behind the new nick at the top of North St. I think you'll probably be okay, although you might want to give yourself a little time to get parked up just so that you're not stressing!
Congratulations and good luck for the future!

Parking in Lewes on Saturdays is a nightmare. The car parks in central Lewes are full most of the time during the day. I don't know what these people are on about. Good luck to you that's all I can say.
