Anyone else finding the councils proposals laughable? Whilst I agree something should be done about congestion/air quality. Their suggestions aren't for the likes of introducing more trees for improved air quality or pedestrianising high street areas but the only solutions they can come up with are generating more money for their Christmas party. As usual no pennies out of the councils pocket

If you spend (or borrow) £25000 on a new Nissan Leaf or similar you will get a reduced parking bill but how does this help the environment? The energy involved in manufacturing and transporting new vehicles is massive. If they provided cheaper public transport they could reduce overall car use and get lots of parking fees. If I cycle to work I save £5 petrol, get fitter and have to pay £1.50 parking. If I get a fancy electric car I reward displacement of tribal people, support coal powered electricity plants and diesel burning container ships....and drive to work and pay no parking fee to the council.

According to a study by the Ifo institute in Munich electric vehicles have a higher CO2 footprint than electric. Tyler Durden zero hedge, April 22 2019. I also saw an article in the Unz review about the latest deisel engine by WW that sounded very efficient. I try to keep an open mind and have no knowledge or interest in these publications other than researching pollution potentials of various fuels. Being a carbon based creature in a carbon based world I am baffled by the demonization of carbon footprints.

Hence the demonisation of VW diesel recently. Zero Hedge and Unz will be labelled "conspiracy theo rists" because they feature some eccentric columnists but that article seemed well researched.
I don't know enough to have a valuable opinion on bio thermic theory but as I am poor and rarely buy things or travel much I tend to have a much smaller carbon footprint than the jet setting environmentalists who harangue us as we go about our humble lives.

After humming and hahing about getting an electric or hybrid vehicle, I've decided to keep my existing diesel and get as much use out of it as possible. However, I will do my best to make sure the engine is kept in good order and isn't pumping out black smoke. Hopefully, a few years down the line, electric vehicles will be cheaper and better.

Yes, those environmentalists with their private jets, over a hundred at their latest bash I'm told. I expect they all "work" for charitable foundations with six figure salaries and stay in five star hotels but they're so virtuous their feet don't touch the ground and leave a footprint.
