I've just watched the video describing the proposed cycle route. It looks fantastic. Does anyone know if there are any propsals to do something similar North of Lewes?

That river bank path has always been a great walk (except for noise from the A27) down to Newhaven and Seaford. Hope it's not ruined by a myriad of metal signs. North of Lewes badly needs something to avoid the twisting hill between Offham and the edge of town and this would probably cost less than the new 20MPH zone in Lewes.

This is as very good thing. Cycling as a form of transport is can no-brainer (in reasonable weather anyway, cheap, healthy, enjoyable). I'm convinced it would be much more popular if it weren't for having to share the roads with speeding cars. The sooner this wonderful cycle track is built the better. And then it should be extended North of Lewes to Barcombe, Is field and Uckfield. I'm sure it would herald a mini revolution for bike travel in East Sussex.

Having had a brief look at the link I can't help but wonder why the cycle route fails to link the stations. It starts short for Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour, doesn't touch Rodmell or Southease and stops short of Lewes. Will there be suitable bike parking at the stations and businesses mentioned in the film?

Doesn't really give a detailed map of the full route does it ? I would hope it starts from the Railway lands in Lewes, ducks under the A27 and continues down the river bank from there, linking with the local villages by improved river access footpaths ? Not clear about which route would link Lewes to Kingston and how it would then continue down to Newhaven. Presumably from the Newhaven end it would link to the cycle paths already in existence round the wildlife area and up behind Tide Mills ?

There's also no information about how it links into the Lewes-Firle cycle path. There's absolutely no point in spending money on piecemeal stretches from nowhere to nowhere. For the 'network' to be useful it needs be be just that, and allow for easy change from public transport (train) to bike. It needs to cross roads, rivers and railways quickly, easily and safely, and ideally via ramped bridge that you can ride up and down. Otherwise it's a token pavement.

Re the Lewes-Firle cycle path - shame it stops just a short distance from Middle Farm. It would then make a decent link, as it is it just peters out.
I regularly ctcle round Barcombe area and would relish a dedicated cycle path, parts of the old railway line (not Uckfield line) will do as starters.
