Just a word to the wise chaps. My father in law lives in Cooksbridge and the other day a man walked into his house and asked if he could swop two fifty pound notes for smaller bills. When challenged the man said he would return later on with the money. Fortunatley my f in law said no and the man left. But be warned everybody please. This 'gentleman' has also been round Newhaven on the same scam. Thank you

Noooo...surely this can't be our fluffy little travellers doing this.
Some of the tree huggers on this forum will be mortified that travellers could ever thieve or rip people off (you know who you are, tree huggers !!!)
You need to inform the police if you haven't already done so. Good luck.

What makes you think this man was a gypsy? Could just as easily have been a DFL commuter limbering up for another week in the City

Oh dear here we go again.
Could have been a traveller, could have been a drug addict from Brighton, could have been anyone criminally minded. Certainly not the scam of a criminal mastermind.
Thanks for warning everyone that someone is trying this scam on, but there is no need to start generalising about travellers, or tree huggers yet again.

I didnt call him a gypsy and I know that he came from the caravan site on the gallops! I just hope that your elderly parent or neighbour dont suffer the same. This was very traumatic for my father-in-law. It was a good job my other half wasnt within the area or else he would have sorted it out his way!!! He thinks that they are all vermin and anyone who protects them, must be vermin as well!!! This incident could have turned out alot worse than it did. Thank you for your concern Traveller Lover.

Well we all appreciate the warning, WORRIED and will be on our Guard.
Come on guys, lets not get reeled into yet another argument about this. We are all big boys and girls in here so lets stop getting insulted by each others remarks and find another topic to discuss. Sigh.......

I didn't say the man was a gypsy either!
Our lovely friend 'Traveller lover' did. One wonders how he/she knew without anyone telling him/her. A lucky guess?
'they' aren't all 'vermin' so it is lucky your partner wasn't in. Would he have attacked David Essex, because he is a Gypsy so must be harbouring other thieving Gypsies!?
A nasty criminal stealing money from your father in law would be very upsetting indeed, and you have all my sympathy. I hope that is the last time it happens, and your warning helps others. Your partner 'sorting it out his way' could have led to someone getting hurt, either, himself, you or your father-in-law. the problem would just escalate, and the man who doesn't apparently have a permenant address could just disappear leaving you all in a wrose mess.
Report it to the police, and maybe keep a camera by the door in case there is a next time.

I should hope so! If anyone deserves a good kicking David Essex does.
Maybe you could invite Bono, Sting & Lenny Henry round too?
