I received an email from Lewes's Mayor today, to announce that the Olympic Torch will pass through Lewes on July 17th next year.
On reading this out to my staff, the general consensus seems to be: "One flaming torch, in Lewes? They should come here on Bonfire Night, we'd show them how flaming torches should look!"

It was in the media yesterday; is that where the Mayor got the news from?

We pay for our councillors (and their staff), now we have to pay for a blinking torch to come through Lewes !!! The Olympics are just as much a rip off as religion and petrol !!
I think all the bonfire societies should have a procession of just torches on July 17th.

The runners must be going at some speed to cover the route in 24 hours (or less). It's a long haul from Brighton to Hastings via Crawley, East Grinstead, Tun Wells, Crowborough, Lewes & Eastbourne.

The whole thing stinks! It's a minority interest, a Lord Coe ego trip, something we cannot afford, I leave it to others to enjoy the drug addled sportsperson spectacle of 2012. I've already booked a holiday to be away for all 4 weeks! Enjoy taxpayers.

Anyone know what time it's coming through ? I hope it doesn't clash with any other parade in Lewes. - like Patina for instance.

I agree with DFL - we need to provide a welcome with some torches of our own !!
