Old antiques building roof slates being stripped

It's Saturday morning and there are two guys working off the scaffolding on the back roof of the recently sold old antiques centre (apologies - I don't know the building's name) on Station Street, stripping all the slate tiles off the roof.
Seems a bit odd as they appear in good condition and it's forecast to chuck it down for the next couple of weeks. Anyone local to Station St know if it's a legit part of the renovation plans?
