Pretty quiet news wise on this site lately and I'm not finding arguing with Tom pain as intellectually challenging as I'd like. I've been banned from even viewing the 'Lewes present' Facebook site for criticising the appalling censorship on it so have been feeling a bit out of touch. Today I borrowed an identity that is still allowed on lewes present to check out the latest news that Mick Symes is allowing to appear on it. Huge hoohah over a car preventing a bus from going round the nevill estate. Symes is totally outraged. The photographic evidence suggests that the car is not blocking the road so a big debate about that from the worthies on the site. In retrospect maybe I'm not missing as much from my ban on access to Symes site as I thought.

This is true. I might have to switch to Lewes Political. I've been pig-headed about not doing that because this forum is a Lewes thing. It's unique and it's part of the culture and fabric of the town. THAT is not a Lewes thing. It's a Zuckerberg thing.

That’s what happens when you post left wing bo lox on LP, banned for life !!!! And a good thing to, you and Emma Howard are condemned to wander the netherworld of The Lewes Forum for eternity …

I got banned from Lewes present for complaining about the censorship on the site when the administrator, Mick Symes decided he didn't want people advocating tactical voting. I didn't want to advocate tactical voting myself, how people voted is to them. I objected to the idea that one person can decide what politically people can post and read on what appears to be a community site. Symes tried to do what no political censor ever normally has to do, that is, justify the political censorship. His argument came down to 'it's my site and I can say what I like'. There really is no other argument he could make.
I got banned for this. If you regard opposing political censorship as being left wing then I truly fear for the future of democracy. I would have objected whatever political view Symes had been attempting to censor as I would hope that everyone else would.
Symes is beneath contempt as far as I am concerned. He has proved himself totally incapable of administering a public community forum. It's a shame that this forum seems to have declined in popularity to replace it. The power of the Facebook brand I suspect.

That tactical voting thing was ridiculous
Newell fisher must have taken a month of work the amount of ‘links’ he put on there
It just cluttered up a local forum. Must people can count. We didn’t need fishers constant patronising posts
One was enough
I’d have banned him too if I was admin

To avoid the enormous effort of scrolling past posts you aren't interested in you are prepared to let someone decide what political posts will be allowed on what appears to be a community forum then blatant? Can you not see the implications for democracy of this attitude?

Unfortunately I lack the wherewithal to start another group. I also think it would be hard to get people to leave the Symes site and move over. Not enough people seem to care that they are allowing one individual to decide what posts can and can't be shown. If he was to change the name of his site to reflect the fact that it is his personal site rather than a lewes community site it might be easier but there is no sign of him doing this. I cannot debate this with him on his site due to my ban so I shall continue to do so on here.

Why don’t you put a few vaguely interesting posts on either and try and boost their popularity.
There’s about two regular posters on both, probably the same two
Mick Symes tolerates stuff on LP that I certainly wouldn’t especially fishers nonsense
Have you ever thought LP is so popular because of Mick? Now there’s a thought to ponder …

I would prefer to stick with this site blatant. Hopefully it will revive. It's possible that the lewes present site is popular because people enjoy Symes' self righteous pomposity but it wouldn't affect the fact that he has proved himself to be incapable of running a community Facebook site due to his lack of commitment to freedom of speech. It sounds like you shouldn't run one either.
That bloke. You are attempting to close down discussion by belittling the people who have contributed to this thread. Pathetic. Maybe you need to consider who needs to get a life.
