Not clever.. Lewes late night shopping

The fireworks were quite pretty but one must admit that it's not very clever to cause travel carnage by closing roads and parking spaces when the intention is to animate people to come into town to do their shopping.

I am livid. It took 3 attempts to get near enough to home before I finally gave in, did a U turn and drove back up to the 27, drove up to the next exit and came off only to sit in the Cuilfail tunnel traffic. It took me over an hour to get home when it normally takes 15 minutes.
What kind of stupid, doesn't advertise the fact on every street, website, shop, newspaper, radios station etc that they are going to close the high street right in the middle of rush hour. In addition if I want my late night shopping to be a sucess would I choke the entire town with traffic and take out all the immediate town centre parking. Completely stupid.

No. Where was I as I don't remember last year? Stuck in Cuilfail, passed out from the fumes!

Late night shopping always happens on the first thursday of december, just like xmas day is always on the 25th! Pearlie, would you prefer Lewes to be modelled on Milton Keynes?

Not at all, I'd like someone to arrange it better - there's no need to shut off the main street in order to encourage people to shop, they shop every day of the week and don't need to shut the road for two burger vans. I didn't choose to finish work late, (well I did as it happens because I run a club for kids to make christmas stuff, but I planned it a year ago) but I could run it a damn sight better than the council and get more customers simply by letting people in.

Pearlie, come and work for the Council then, put up with all the crap and ungrateful wingers. If the High St hadn't have been closed you would have been moaning that it should have been.

Would you have any idea why we haven't got any xmas lights CB ?

No I wouldn't like to work for the council. Yes, I can see why it would be an unpleasant job. Yes, I can see why wingers would up set you, but that's Lewes. I rarely have anything to say about anything but this is the daftest thing I have ever heard and it caused me petrol, stress, and time. I was going to go shopping that night but I went home, I was so fed up.

SB, I know LDC were responsible for the Xmas trees, and Lewes House looks great, but I think it is the Town Council's and the Chamber of Commerce's responsibility.
