I agree. Why can't we just leave? Why do there have to be all these rules and stuff?

Lets face it. We've been all economically conquered by London. Once the pretence of that hollow house has collapsed we are all screwed.

Once you leave a Gym, you stop paying and stop going, they don't ask for money towards the managers pension, and something for the new flooring on order, cos you've worn the old one out ETC ETC The new members PAY

It's quite simple: The UK has to be punished for daring to leave to ensure nobody else makes the same decision.

It's more like selling your house than leaving a gym, Bert.
There are schemes and projects that the UK is committed to paying towards, in the same way as a house buyer agrees to pay off the mortgage. When you sell a house because you don't want to live in it any more, you have to pay off the mortgage in one hit, instead of monthly instalments for the life of the mortgage.
The UK has made commitments and needs to keep them, even if it wants to move out of the EU house because it finds the behaviour of the neighbours unpalatable.

Just a quick note: the "great" in great Britain is used because historically there were two Britains - little Britain (Brittany) and Great Britain (us)
It's nothing to do with us being a "great" people or nation

@ACT
Paying off a mortgage after selling a house is a good analogy, but it's not accurate, it's closer to handing back your keys to the mortgage company because we don't want it anymore.
If we were selling the house then we would get our fair share from the sale, the remainder would pay off the mortgage (I don't see the EU selling property and equipment to give our share anytime soon, but they do expect us to pay for it anyway).
