Ultimately, if you’ve got to publish a disclaimer saying that what you’re doing isn’t racially offensive, it probably is.
We need to call these things for what they are.
Blackface is blackface.."
If you black up, you don't know your social history about how truly offensive it has become. If you don't think that that social history matters, and you are not aware of what the generally, globally agreed wider idea of racism is, that is not an excuse.

Yes yes, we understand your dogmatic ideology. But do we get to keep the flaming crosses? After all, they also have more-or-less one racist connotation throughout most of society. So if Bonfire doesn't get to be an exception in one area......etc.

How sad that Jim Drey was taken in by the dribble written by Miranda Larbi. They are like sheep following an article not written by themselves but lamely tag along agreeing with this dribble. I am certain that if a black man dressed up in an old military costume and whitened his face to make it look authentic no one would give a toss. So lets stop this Racist dribble because all you are doing Jim Drey is causing unnecessary friction.

That if you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing your costume walking down any high street in the country on a Saturday afternoon then you shouldn't wear it on Bonfire night. Simple as that.

Now and again you get some Dick head who think it is real clever to pick someone up on their grammar regardless of whether its got anything to do with the thread or not. Well Dribbling wreck welcome to the world of Dickheads you moron.

Utter b0ll0x. Would any bonfire boy dressed as, say, a very uncontroversial cowboy walk down any high street in July in his/her full outfit complete with imitation Colt45? I wouldn't.

I like the fact it's safe enough to leave windows open and shops don't need to put grills up at night.
