Anyone who loves the beach at Seaford and Tide Mills should be aware of this consultation about Newhaven port development plans. From the look of the initial plans the low tide sandy beach at Tide Mills would be lost, as would the land behind the beach up to the archeological site of Tide Mills village. I'm all for redevelopment and regeneration of the port area but it has to be without the cost of losing this very special site.

we can only wonder when the powers that be will stop ruining every last remaining positive feature of Newhaven. It is the most shameful example of 'town planning'

I so agree Local Bod. It is indeed - and an insult to a proud community. It's about time Lewes people woke up to this and started defending what's happening on the coast. The insularity of Lewes in this regard makes me very angry! After all Lewes people colonize that beach in the summer!

I wouldn't blame Lewes people, as we have also had enough of the powers that be ruining our town as well. (see next thread ) The common denominator is terrible local planning, and we all know who is responsible for that. Councillors were keeping quiet for years , the problems with at least one senior LDC employee, and so consequently lumbered us all with the inevitable results.

Bulldoze the whole town and start again. Newhaven has soooo much potential but it's still in the 1970's

Lewes resident my thoughts are yours and I take your point. Which councillors were keeping quiet? what problem with a senior LDC employee ? - we need some explanations if this is the case. Ordinary people keep on seeing their loved places and urban/ country landscapes taken from them; and they feel powerless. What are we leaving for our children and grand children?

I like The Grange Gardens, and the way the teashop has the most odd mixture of china from the charity shops
