Whole house to be done - Carpetright or one of the independents?

I will never use Barbican again. We bought an expensive carpet for hall, stairs and landing.
Very poorly fitted. Called the fitter back twice, who failed to rectify. I write to complain on two occasions and never even got a response from them.
I'd use County carpets next time.
That's my experience.

I recommend County Carpets. Carpetright have a lower headline price but at County all fitting and accessories (e.g. the spikey things which keep the carpet in place) are included so they work out much better value in the end. The fitters are also very efficient and will plane doors, move beds and washing machines etc, whatever needs doing. Carpetright fitters and in and out in the shortest time possible. Also if you have a Lewes FC card they give a discount.

Have used Barbican Carpets many times over the years and never had any problems. The fitting has always been excellent.

I signed up for Lewes FC membership just to get the savings off my carpet with County. Good job and nice carpet which has lasted well. A couple of bad experiences with Carpet Right and I won't be using them again. Once used Barbican - fitter was fine but I chose a cheap carpet and it didn't wear well.

FITTER, FITTER, FiITTER! If you get a bad one, it doesn't matter where you bought your carpet or how good quality it is, the result will be unsatisfactory, and you money will be wasted.
Find someone you know who's had stair carpet fitted recently, inspect the job and then find the name of the fitter.
Otherwise it's pot luck and there are some really bad fitters out there.

Like Old Bike, I wouldn't use Barbican again. We bought an expensive carpet for two flights of stairs and a landing and also had to get the fitter back in twice because the grips were poking through the carpet and my children kept getting stabbed in their bare feet. When I phoned the owner to complain he said that it was normal! Have used Carpet Right too - well fitted carpet but they added insurance to the final bill without asking us. We use County Carpets now...

Thanks for your views so far - much appreciated. Has anyone tried Fludes at Newhaven?

Carpet Right? Carpet Wrong more like. Fitters made an absolute mess, flooring laid terribly, and door frames ruined. Because you pay the fitter separately, if you have any complaints you have to deal with them directly, but surprise surprise you can't get hold of them!
Barbican are better, but again their fitter is pretty poor. Think the owner needs to address this as have heard others say the same.
Going to try County Carpets myself next time.

I've had good experience with Fluffy Side Up in Uckfield. Very helpful and keen prices.

County carpets give you a quote; you say you have a Rooks card; they put the price up. A con.

Had a carpetright fitter a few years back to fit a stair carpet and he made an awful mess with bits left everywhere. No exaggeration, I even had to clean up the garden after he left.

Carpetright not in the same league.

@Local - not in my experience at County. I've used them twice and got 10% off both times.
Never used Barbican so can't comment either way on them,
