According to the Sussex police website, there was a robbery in Lewes at 4:55pm, which resulted in the helicopter swooping very low over my house on it's way up to Nevil.
Doesn't say if it was an armed robbery though, the plot thickens...

According to the shop next door wasa Robbery (not sure if it was armed) sometime about 4 ish ? how much money would they have got its a tiny newsagent but at that time of day kids would have been everywhere? but the shop was still guarded by police at 8pm one car also at enterance to motor road bonfire site one down by the green so doubt it was just a simple robbery.
what scares me is I walk my son to the shops to get his chocolate buttons and he could have been in there what is this world coming.
my feelings go out to the owners and staff I know them all very well.

Two arrests after armed bank raid
An armed robber carried out a raid on a bank and drove off with a quantity of cash, Sussex Police have said.
It is thought the robber had a gun in the raid at Barclays in Seaford on Tuesday, Insp Charlie Connaughton said.
Firearms officers were called to the scene and the police helicopter was scrambled, he added.
A man and a woman were arrested in Tesco car park, Lewes, less than an hour later. Insp Connaughton said cash and a firearm were recovered.
Appealing for witnesses, he said the armed robbery happened at the Barclays branch in Broad Street at 1547 BST.
Nobody was injured in the robbery.

I was up Neville, malling & landport yestersday & have to say Neville is definately not the quietest area any more. There's not much to choose between any of the estates they all have good & bad areas but I must say I feel much more intimidated on the Neville estate than any of the others, especially round the shops & park - whats happened to it up there?

Nothing much wrong with nevill. Even the boy racers down by the green seem to have found somewhere else to go for most of the time.

I agree, unfortunately its location is vulnerable to a quick getaway route. It would be good to hear of the snidey git getting collared though.

From the argus
A pair of robbers wearing crash helmets took money and alcohol in a mid-afternoon knife raid at a newsagents.
Police are hunting two people, both believed to be men, who robbed Nevill Newsagents in Mount Harry Road, Lewes.
The raiders, one of whom was armed with a knife, walked into the shop, barged past the sole woman worker, who was stacking shelves at the time, and stole about 300 from the till and eight cans of lager and a bottle of beer.
The raiders made no threats to the woman who realised what was happening and hid in the back of the shop.
Inspector Charlie Connaughton, of Sussex Police, said: She came away to make a phone call to the police in the back of the newsagents and when she went back into the shop she saw one of the males taking money out of the till.
The first suspect is described as 6ft 4in tall and slim. He was wearing a white crash helmet with two blue stripes across the top and a brown tan waist-length jacket.
The second suspect is 5ft 10in tall, stocky, and was wearing a grey waist-length jacket.
Insp Connaughton said the robber with the striped helmet was carrying the knife and was the one who took money from the till.
No one was hurt in the raid, although the woman was severely shaken by the incident. The two raiders then fled on foot.
Police are looking for witnesses or information from anybody who was in the Mount Harry Road and Highdown Road area on the Nevill estate between 4pm and 4.45pm on Tuesday.
The shop was closed for the rest of the day while officers investigated.
The drama at the newsagents unfolded at the same time as armed police were confronting two other suspected armed robbers less than two miles away in a Tesco car park.
Customers at Barclays Bank in Broad Street, Seaford, were stunned when a raider wearing a darkcoloured hooded top, pointed a handgun and demanded staff hand over money.
He fled at around 3.45pm on Tuesday in a silver van which had been parked outside. The Sussex Police helicopter was deployed and followed the van.
Armed police then swooped on the crooks when they arrived at Tesco car park in Brooks Road, Lewes, at 4.44pm.
A 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman from Brighton were still being questioned by police yesterday after being arrested in connection with the Barclays raid.
Police have said the two robberies were not connected.
Insp Connaughton said: This is an unusual type of offence for this area.
The district is not used to suffering that level of crime.
Anybody with information on either incident should contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
