Seems a shame that the chap on Station Street couldn't make it work. I find it surprising that a DVD rental shop isn't viable in Lewes - especially given the lack of cable and the rubbish freeview signal.
Does anyone know where the nearest one now is? Is it the outskirts of Brighton, or is there one down a sidestreet in Malling or Ringmer or somewhere, that I've not noticed before?

The library's very good and we use it often, but it just doesn't satisfy that 7pm-on-a-Sunday urgent need for Bruce Willis and mindless violence.

get an ipod touch, then you can download rental films at about one pound 50, and watch it within 3 days on your TV with the correct lead. No leaving your house, no queue, no out of stock. Simples!

Search the new & used section on Amazon and you can find most films to buy on DVD cheaper than a rental. Alternatively you can download rental films using an Xbox 360 and I think there might be a UK version of netflix (Google it).

Video rental shops are on the way out, I imagine the term will be as alien and antiquated in 15 years time as blacksmith is now (I know there is a blacksmith in Lewes but it's not exactly a feature of most high streets these days).

I can see I'm a bit of a luddite here. We used to be in lovefilm but it still doesn't hit the spot for the 'I'm in the mood for this sort of film, right now' thing. The ideal rental shop also supplies maltesers and popcorn, which is a big part of the equation.
Couch spud - good call, ta. Daughter has an ipod touch. I knew you could buy but hadn't paid much attention to the renting thing. What's the iTunes back catalogue like?

I wrote about this recently, and came to a shocking conclusion...
To read it, google 'small pleasures lewes'. It's the first result, and when in the blog, go to the archive. The frightening truth about Lewes and video shops is the first one for May, called 'Can't rewind we've gone too far'.

Sorry - here is the link for the above article about vid shops in Lewes.
You need to put in the bit at the beginning I guess, the http or the www or whatever:

iTunes is really good, there's a huge range of movies for about £1.50. They're streamed too, so no long download wait.
