I am going to spend 60p and write a letter to L. Ashley - because online they want to know all your details. -- Customer Services P.O.Box 19. Newtown. Powys. SY16 1DZ. Nothing has changed on their store locator website - all it needs is a sentence .... (the store is on the right )....There is No Parking there. Go straight on into the Pay and Display car park.

I note it costs 13p a minute, plus your own providers charges, so are we sure they're not the car space owners. Seems pretty mean to charge premium rates just to phone these days. And how come they have closed Brighton store, but left Lewes open, subsidised by the parking scam?

Without a shadow of doubt the parking scam earns more than the actual store does.

Could I suggest that if people really think that it's so terrible to be fined for parking somewhere they shouldn't that the ranters on this forum stand guard by the offending spaces for a few hours each day and warn people off therefore reducing the income stream considerably , without resorting to anything illegal . It would almost be a public spirited thing to do for your community . Also what about putting cones in front of the spaces ..it might be interesting to keep an eye out and see who physically moves them ?

Laura Ashley are tenants of the building and have no more control over the "parking" than the Hospice shop opposite . JLP (Waitrose) were also originally tenants, and asked the then landowner to sort out the parking free for all so they could get their trucks into their loafing bay. The landowner responded by appointing the current gangsters, who soon sorted the problem by clamping all and sundry. They were so ott that Norman managed to get a bill through parliament outlawing clamping- to be replaced by the current fines. In recent years, JLP have bought the freehold of their store, the NCP car park, Wenbans sheds, and the Laura Ashley site, including the offending spaces. When they judge that the time is right, they will build a completely new store along the river bank, and redevelop the existing store, and Laura Ashley. It is possible that they have built this development scheme under a nominee company, so they can claim not to be responsible for the parking gangsters - but they are!

How about buying/obtaining an old fit-for-scrap box van and filling it with old tyres or asbestos, fit false plates, and abandoning it at Laura Ashley?

Convenient - I agree and would do just that but I only visit Lewes. I have an historical interest in the town. Oldbutintouch I don't doubt you, but can this be proved? Shopper, I sympathize with your intent, but motors nowadays are forensically identifiable, indeed it's the VDLA that shops us to any of these parking crooks by selling our details. Yet should you wish to find the owner of a beloved car you once owned - no chance.
