Does anyone use Microsoft Publisher? Would someone who does be prepared to give me a brief tutorial on how to pour a large Word document into it and edit it. I struggled with the help files and didn't make any progress. If not, is there an easier DTP system that's affordable that I could consider? Sorry for starting a separate thread on this subjecty. I tried placing an ad in free ads, but couldn't make it stick - or if I did I can't find it and no one has replied.

Yes Salami I use Publisher. Not a wonderful programme but it does come with Office pro.
Just had a look
Start a new blank document
File
Import Word Document
Select your word doc and off you go and it will create the requiste number of pages etc. and import the text.

I've just converted from MS Office to Open Office, which is a free download. I haven't tried the DTP bit of it but the Word substitute seems fine. And it's nice knowing you're not subsidising that berk Gates and his crappy 'helpful' paperclip and useless 'UK English' dictionary.

Merlin, I have done that. Selected an A5 portrait template. Imported an A5 format Word document. It is imported as an A4 document spilling over the edges of the template. I couldn't see how to force it back in again. Maybe there was too much text. Do you use Publisher to do clever things like newsletters?
Down and Out, I've got Open Office 2.3 installed because like you I approve of it. But I don't see a DTP system there.

Grab the sides of the text box and drag / snap to your magins. The text will flow automatically to the other pages.

Merlin, I'm trying to put a 400 plus page book into this application. I can resize the text box - but one page at a time. I think I am going to have to accept that Publisher is the wrong application for my purpose. But thanks for trying.

Use an A4 template but print as A5
