Masks in Priory

Ignoring unhelpful name calling and relying on government statistics which show that the delta variant is the Indian variant which has taken over completely and is causing no extra casualties, what is all the fuss about? See Ivor Cummins YouTube June 21 for reassurance from official sources and positively no theories.

Masks are now compulsory in classrooms. My son is off isolating again after being in close contact. The fuss is about lost learning. He was supposed to be doing his Mock GCSES. The fuss is about vaccine excape, long covid and new variants. I'd rather call the fuss social responsibility and caring for our community.

Yet again my favourite parrot is using words they don't understand.
None of the available vaccinations are gene therapy.
Gene Therapie requires a permanent change to somatic genes. For that quite sophisticated technologies are required. In contrast injecting mRNA induces a (very) transient protein expression.
All of thus is such basic biology knowledge that it has featured in school curricula for over two decades. Do yourself a favour and read at least the very basics of a topic before spreading myths.
So now, on with the expected tomfoolery... Random blog posts (from weight loss gurus again thus time?), misquoted, bits of information removed from all context or simply redefining words to make random theories fit.

It's not quite certain how transient the protein expression is, however we'll see in time, it is experimental so you never know. As you were the PCR expert who peddled useless trivia about that, totally ignoring the fact that they were using far too many cycles to produce meaningful results, you must excuse my reluctance to accept your biological knowledge. Talk about theories! The effect of mRNA vaccines in the long term is completely theoretical , only now being tested on you, I hope your trust in theories is not misplaced. However, sunbeam, I think your trust in Hancock is gravely misplaced, he obviously ignores the rubbish he spouts. Masks, have you looked at the scientific studies on their efficiency- negligible, but don't take my word for it, I'm sure the videos of Fauchi saying they are useless are still up.

I have no faith in Hancock. Efficacy wize masks may not be 100 percent but our children, teachers, frontline and zero hours workers deserve the best protection they can get while they are forced out and into risking their health for us. I don't think masks are the answer to the results of the necropoltics we are suffering from as a society but I imagine, Pain if you had to look after my family members who are unwell with symptoms and positive PCR tests that you would accept a mask before washing them.

And more Tomfoolery. You really need to either learn the basics or accept that you are peddling hogwash.
The PCR question still requires you to finally understand how Realtime PCR works (here extra cycle numbers serve as QC and don't lead to any false positives). But you choose to not understand what you are talking about, instead basking in your own ignorance. I applaud you: a lesser man would try to understand what he is talking about. But you take real pride in your ignorance.
And your comments on mRNA are further evidence that you really should read up on protein biosynthesis. Any secondary school text book would be a good starting point. We know very well how transient the protein expression is.
Funny you should mention Hancock. Given he is more aligned with your ilk. Like you, he regularly has no idea what he is talking about, but never let's that slow him down.
Let me know when you actually are interested in learning about these things - I would be happy to recommend some very good text books. Even more: I am happy to teach/explain the basics to anyone who really wants to know. As I have done professionally with numerous medical students.

@Sunbeam sorry to hear you have been so directly affected.
I agree good mask discipline is really key. It's unfortunate that the "powers that be" were so negligent with this. Once the PPE shortages were behind us, ffp2 masks should have been pushed much more, as they combine two levels of protection.
Long Covid really is my personal main concern at this point. It was to be expected from early 2020 on, given the nature of this virus (beta-type CoV) and the most recent data suggests it is very worrying indeed. Thankfully, it seems that the vaccines are effective here as well.

Doctor Deceptimus, I know how transient your protean personalities are so I'll keep this brief. Don't take yourself to be that important Tomfoolery. Pointing out when you are spreading "alternatives facts" isn't important enough to go through the effort of anyone creating multiple profiles.
For anyone who knows the basics, your statements about PCR are basically "A Ford T can't drive 40 mph, so Formula 1 speeds are impossible and lies".
I am impressed that despite demonstrating that you lack even a secondary school level understanding of the basics you believe that reading a few blog posts makes you a sufficient expert to condradict people who spent decades learning and practicing this stuff. The few times you find a reputable information source, you misunderstand it (see your "co-morbidities" faux pas) and bend it to fit your preconceived notions.
Seriously: take your impressive energy and commitment, get a few basic books, read them and "sapere aude" (rather than practicing the opposite of enlightenment).
Live well and all that.

Sunbeam, your son's health and wellbeing is at far greater risk from other things.
Wearing a mask at school is not going to stop him from being exposed to Covid. At some point he'll want to take his mask off and eat some lunch. He will also touch his face and mouth without washing his hands if he is a normal boy.
People need to apply some common sense and proportionality here.
Even if he were to be exposed he's unlikely to experience serious illness as he is so young. And if you're under 65 you've similarly not got much to worry about.
If you've been vaccinated the risks to your health reduce even further.
Stop worrying and live your life. Life is too short.
We've been scared in to compliance, but enough is enough. Your son's wellbeing and future is far more important than wasting time on what petty unions think!

Thanks RussianR Your intentions and tone are lovely. I'm not worrying and my son is a very happy resilient young man who studies biology understands and is aware that 'we'll be alright Jack' it's the health service and those who he infects that aren't vaccinated that he cares about as I'm sure we all do. Peace and Love and Here's to Non Compliance to privileged navel gazing self interest. Here's to social responsibility and supporting the NHS to cope with this third wave. My initial question is now resolved so I'll leave this there.

Some risks due to Covid are very small. yet still exist. Being infected by a fellow pupil not wearing a mask may be only slightly more likely than if they are wearing one. But why take any risk which can be avoided? Pupils in the bubble will be sent home, masks or no masks, but in a mask-wearing school, they are less likely to actually have the disease.
So I will probably continue mask wearing and other measures even when it is officially not necessary. It will still be avoiding a (very small) risk.

If anyone would like to support our young people there is a campaign being run by a group called "UsForThem". Their message being that children have paid a high price to protect the elderly and vulnerable and now it is time to put children first.
If you're a parent or grandparent it's worth a google.

Are you planning on advocating the same when 'flu comes? No? Why not? Because you accept 'flu as a normal part of life? - but it's a major killer too, every year 30,000 'excess' deaths, sometimes many more. And their 'flu season is only 4 months, December to March.
The ONS has genuine records of 'excess' deaths (how many more there are in 'flu season than in non-'flu season) from 'flu, going back decades. Anyone can look at them. In 2014-15 over 44,000 died. In 99-00 48,000 died. (In 4 months.)
The 'flu not only targets the old but also the under-5s. If we had the same hyper-awareness of this via constant reporting of these deaths we could have given up our civil rights years ago to try to save these victims.
People die of disease. It's a sad fact. Weigh carefully what should be done by those who are not at risk, to cheat nature for those who are. Our children are not at risk, unless they have an underlying health issue that we know makes them vulnerable.
And by the way - with all the hand sanitising and especially the social distancing you're ruining your ability to fend off the 'flu. Look out for those figures in April 2022.

Dam'nblast - If I've understood your point correctly, I agree about 'flu. It beats me why we have never had stuff like masks and gathering limits before, to control 'flu and, I am sure many other diseases. I'm not arguing about hand sanitising - I'll have to look it up.

While you're at it, look up handwringing too.

Is the point that hand sanitising and social distancing reduce the chance of an individual developing antibodies? What is special about April 2022? The measures you mention may well damage ability to fend off 'flu. Flu kills far more people than Covid, so measures that reduce Covid while contributing to a larger increase in 'flu are obviously a bad idea. Do masks really increase 'flu cases and deaths? If so, the powers that be have seriously bodged it.
On 3 Jul 2021 at 12:09pm Dam'nblast wrote:
IDM - yes, exactly! Correct on all points.
The next 'flu season is Dec 2021-Mar 2022, so Apr 2022 is when the figures can be collated.

Oh... "shoot the messenger"... The word you were looking for is "storyteller".
You dream up false positive rates that don't line up with any of the publically available data.
You imagine that "comorbidity" is the same as "preexisting condition", despite any dictionary telling you that is far from true.
You insist that a limitation of old-school PCR applies to real-time PCR and qPCR (methods developed to complete side step thase limitations, among other reasons), removed from all reality and despite yourself not actually knowing how any of these methods work.
You insist that Covid is ultimately harmless - in contrast to all the evidence to the contrary.
You complain mask wearing for a few hours a day is a huge problem for you and others (despite the fact that hundreds of occupations require people to wear them for hours on end with no negative effects).
You make claims about vaccines that are physically impossible.
You deny the results of decades of research in molecular biology, claiming things about mRNA that any biology schoolbook could tell you is wrong.
The sources you reference (when you do) are commonly blogposts (for some reason most of them from weight loss gurus - the most amusing aspect of all this) or complete removed from any context (ften simply claiming someone said something without an actual reference).
But if someone dares exposes your stories for what they are, you whinge and moan.
And why? Heaven knows.
On 3 Jul 2021 at 7:22pm Tom Pain wrote:
Still you deny the meaning of whinging and moaning. See the above post for a definitive example. As a post script for you tombstone may I suggest - " any comorbidities were definitely acquired after death, so there and don't argue."

Hey dreamer, if you ever wake up, here's a message from the man who invented mRNA technology, Dr Robert Malone (of course you would know that with your o level expertise)."In the Security and Exchange Commission filings for both Pfizer and Moderna there's explicit statements that acknowledge that these are gene therapy based vaccines...." This man has spent the last 3 decades building vaccines and vaccine technology. Do you think he might know a little more than you or I?
