Come on who nicked the parking meter from the Maltings car park ? Would like to congratulate them as enjoying the free parking at the moment, except for some poor bugger that has had the back windows smashed yesterday when I saw it !

It was faulty so I think it's been taken away for repair and it will no doubt be back soon. Thanks for telling everyone about the free parking. It's nice that everyone will now be able to join in, rather than just those who have always parked there whatever the (inflated) price because of its proximity to their workplace.

If there is no meter does it mean it's free parking? i always assumed they told you to go to the next available meter?

Passing by: It definitely was broken. Whether it was removed for repair or by someone frustrated with its uselessness I couldn't say for sure.
Cat in the hat: There is no next available machine in the Maltings car park. The next nearest is on Castle Banks and has completely different charges and maximum stay rules. In effect the Maltings is not presently a carpark so much as a wasteground area.
And Noisy Parker: I am sorry if my last post was unduly sarcastic. It is just frustrating that having parked in the Maltings for some years, the recent change from long-stay to 4-hour parking (and simultaneous swingeing fee increase) was at least accompanied by a drop-off in usage which made it easier to be sure of finding a space there. Suddenly it's full again - self-evidently not with people who have been paying for the pleasure meantime. It would have been nice to feel that those of us who have been paying through the nose and playing musical parking spaces at lunchtime since the beginning of summer could at least have been the ones who reaped the benefit while the machine is gone.
I expect it will be back soon anyway.

Where is the car park? Is it the one up behind the castle? Magic circle?
