I have been standing in the Lewes post office queue for 3 weeks now. Each night they close WHSmiths and I hide behind the envelopes with the other queuers and carry on queuing when they open again in the morning. The queue is now only just over five miles long. I can see a light at the end but I've been queuing so long it may just be a hallucination. It's a slow journey but I've brought sandwiches and a flask. I wonder if they'd consider having a portaloo installed. By the time I get served they will have raised the price of stamps. It's good really because I have nothing else to do with my time of any importance whatsoever.

I have also been queuing for some consider time now, Does anyone know the result of the US presidential election? Last I heard Hilary Clinton was nailed on to win. The upside is that I should be able to obtain gainful employment this Christmas as my white beard is now over 2 feet long and I have put on over 3 stones in weight from eating chocolate from the shelves whilst waiting...........

Just buy some euros. You can then go straight to the front as one cashier leaves the desperate souls in seek of higher profit in the other window. Company policy.......

If they close all of the post offices in the UK, and there is only one left in Lewes, and the queue goes on for miles and miles would we think that Britain was 'full up' or that privatisation was not helpful in terms of improving efficiency because it was unregulated and controlled by a small bunch of greedy people who don't care if we get our post on time, or if it takes longer to get the train from Brighton to London than it did in Victorian times...

It's quite obvious, we are not full up, just look at how empty the roads are, and the trains are empty most of the time. It's so easy to find a parking space too.

Brighton to London took an hour by fastest train in 1900. In 1932 Winston Churchill ( I am unsure which minister he was at the time) organised the first electrification of an inter-city main line, mainly to provide employment during a recession; and restored this timing.
Today it takes just over an hour from Victoria to Brighton- or Lewes- both fifty miles. (RMT permitting) .
