Quite a lot of candidates in the Lewes local elections this time - and a lot of different options (LibDem, Green, Labour, Independent) to split the left-of-Tory vote.
Neat idea of the Greens to identify their 1st/2nd/3rd choice candidate in each ward.
There seems to be quite a dearth of sitting LibDem councillors standing again - have they all decided that the game is up? Apart from Michael Chartier who must have served about as long as all the other councillors standing again put together. And why has John Stockdale decamped from Bridge to Priory?
Good to see Matt Kent standing again in Bridge Ward as an independent.
Tories not putting up a 3rd candidate against St Ruth in Priory ward? Or perhaps they just couldn't find anyone, as they had to bus their second candidate in from Ditchling.

The outcome of the Lewes District elections in Lewes Wards might determine the overall control of the council. There are a vast amount of parties standing this year, but this time round there seems to be many well known Independents standing in all three wards (Bridge, Castle and Priory).
This should shake things up a bit given the Councils agenda to sell off their assets and make heavy cuts at the same time. I wonder whether the Independents are prepared to go on record and explain their position on District Council austerity (or 'savings' as local authorities like to call it). That might underline which way they lean under the guise of Independence.

What's the story on election boards - there's even one on a bus stop in Rodmell - is this allowed? Reminds me of South Africa where all the vote for signs are on lamp posts.

Agree with Floating Voter; we need to pin thee Independents down and have their intentions made clear to everyone - and then hold them accountable.

I certainly won't be voting for Ruth again, not after she supported the Tories and got us lumbered with a council tax increase, and supported the sale of St Anne's to Subud.

I certainly won't be voting Tory or LibDem in the District Elections on May 7th as both parties have supported massive cuts to local services at a national level. I'm torn between voting Labour or Independent in Bridge Ward. The Green Candidates have done nothing for Cliffe and Malling over the last 4 years and I've received nothing from them regarding the elections. Whoever I vote for must seriously commit to supporting an anti-cuts agenda.

Fairmeadow - not quite right re Lib Dems. David Gray is re-standing in Castle, John Lamb (a current Town councillor) is standing in Bridge for the Lib Dems alongside Daisy Cooper.

@Triple Hop. Do you know why Cllr John Stockdale was moved out of Bridge Ward to Castle Ward. Seems very odd to move an encumbent Lewes Town and District Councillor into a neighbouring ward?
Regarding Lewes Bridge Ward I've never heard from the two LibDem candidates over the last few years. And I've never heard of Daisy Cooper, is she from Lewes?

If I lived in Bridge ward (sadly I don't) I'd vote for Matt Kent.
Otherwise I'm pretty much with Floating Voter.
A marked shortage of Conservative candidates who actually live in the wards they are standing to represent - or even live in Lewes at all.
