Building control need to inspect at various stages (so assuming it was done properly and has the potential to conform), it should just be a case of opening up the previous work for inspection.
Presumably calculations were done at the time?
If it hasn't been done properly, you might never get regulations without redoing the whole thing, if it has speak with LABC they will tell you what part to open for inspection, they are helpful and you might not need a professional at all.
