On a cycle ride through Glynde, Firle and Ripe, I counted five discarded McDonalds meal bags, along with numerous cans and drinks bottles, obviously chucked from vehicles onto the grass verges along the lovely country lanes. I did removefrom the hedges one plastic bag which had about a dozen empty Budweiser cans inside and found a public bin.
Is this all the work of one person making a protest on behalf of the left behinds, despoiling the countryside in protest at social and economic inequality, or perhaps lots of thoughtless morons not willing to take their rubbish home with them?
A McDonalds in Lewes sounds such a bad idea.

I tend to walk a lot on the downs and it seems that the more people walk- the less litter they drop. Of course it might be that there's just fewer people up there. Most of it is thrown from cars and it seems to be that the spaces between towns are just that - empty spaces between the beginning of a journey and it's destination that don't exist in the awareness of the traveller. This is the root cause of all pollution, blindness to anything outside of ourselves; a complete lack of perception that our acts have consequences.Blaming a lack of equality for it will only exacerbate the problem by never addressing it.

Something tells me, Ferret, that you're one of those awfully nice Remainers who think everything would be lovely if only we could all be a bit more civilised in our choice of wine in the evening.

@Bert Nice? I try to be. Remainer? Yes of course as I'm not bonkers. But I'm a beer drinkier, and not very keen on wine. I just hate litter and those who care nothing for our environment.

Basil. I think I've learnt a lot more about you from your post. I thought that you were opposed to the EU as it hasn't lived up to your socialist utopian dreams. I now realise you see people in favour of remaining in the EU as a homogeneous group that you just don't like. Please feel free to explain if I have you wrong.
Good post ferret. I despise litter and the thoughtless people who drop it. I wouldn't mind betting that most people who drop it voted leave. Please note I have not just said that all leave voters drop litter.

@Nevillman, what I also learned from his post is that Basil is completly obsessed by Brexit. He appears to be unable to look at anything in the world without looking through his Brexit glasses. It must be a sad life...
And yes: littering sucks. What went wrong with people that they believe throwing their rubbish out of the car window is acceptable behaviour remains a mystery to me.
