Scan results due: I am so scared that I can hardly function at the moment, even breathing seems an effort. Whatever happens I'm determined to try and be a better person - kinder, more considerate, more thoughtful. This may be difficult as illness brings on such different feelings like anger, depression and panic. I look at my children and pray that I will be around to see them mature into adults and make their own way in life. The last few weeks have been a living hell and I'm not sure quite how I got through it. I've gone from despair to optimism and back again so many times. The crazy thing is that apart from the symptoms of sheer panic, I feel fine. When I walk through town and look at old folk I am jealous of their age. Celebrate every birthday as the alternative is a dark place.

There are probably many posters on this forum who have experienced what you are going through. You're not alone. If its any comfort then always look to your family and friends for support and don't hide anything.

Oh Fade... Is there someone with you, someone you can talk to frankly? Are you trying to protect everyone around you? Sometimes it can be really difficult to let your guard down with your loved ones.

You know there are help lines run by charities who will listen? If you're waiting for a specific diagnosis, there will be organisations who specialise in helping: please look them up and call them if you don't feel able to talk to anyone close to you. It will help to talk, it really will. Good luck to you.

Really feel for you, Fade. I hope it all turns out for the best.
SQ is right about helplines and online forums; there will be one somewhere for people in just your situation and it will help to talk.
Fingers crossed and wishing for good news for you.

Fade, my thoughts are with you. Just going through the same with my partner. She's 46 and being checked out for lung cancer. I'm beside myself with worry.

Fade, Ive been there and have come out the other side - don't be scared - there are loads of people to help and support you through a difficult time. Talk to people, share your worries. Just remember treatments are so much better than they were even a few years ago and trust your consultant - work with him/her and all will be well
