If Lidl can do it why not all the others?

Best go study business & economics, Harry. Consider inputs, outputs, the current market, supply and demand for starters.

Of course the others could do it. Lidl has been growing but is still not in the same league as the big hitters. Compare actual profits. The current 'drops' in profits so widely reported give quite an erroneous impression. Also compare prices - Lidl are paying a living wage whilst managing extraordinarily cheap prices. British people continue to be duped. It's beyond me as to why!

The others "can't" do it because they can get away with it....for now.
Business always whinges about stuff like this until they are given no choice. The living wage is the bare minimum a person with no children needs to earn in order to live without claiming benefits. Why would we deny this to anyone?

It could be something to do with our food being historically expensive as a portion of take home pay. Mainly after the War, hence Addie's Revenge. We get duped over everything due to our obsession for houses and making money for nothing.

The answer is pressure from the public. These gross supermarket businesses have profited from our loyalty for years. They care little for nourishing food and the nation's health - only profit! The government is so intertwined with these money making machines that they do nothing - and the concern about British children's health is left to the energy of a TV celebrity!
So, vote with your feet! (And it's worth remembering too that Waitrose seems to be more about image than reality.)
