So tonight is late night shopping. The kids have been waiting all week for the lights to go up and after just driving up school hill....not a dickie bird.

Both Hailsham and Uckfield look amaizing this year but not a thing in Lewes. The shops have made a good effort, Lewes house looks great as does the town hall with all the LED icicles and the xmas tree by the memorial is fantastic....but the high street is s**t.

Anyone know what's going on ?

They've put a rather horrible twinkly hairnet on the Christmas trees
I guess they think that's a pretty good effort.
Pah!

It's disgusting smiler....county town of East Sussex and we can't even string a few lights together. I'm going to ask our mayor about it tonight and maybe our MP....not that any of them give a stuff as long as they're lining their own pockets with extravagent expenses and unnecessary trips to our French friends.

Couldn't Bill have hung up some tables, chairs, trees and oranges? After all, we do let him take over our pavement.

I seem to remember Tescos saying they would sort some lights out somewhere?

I find that blue Christmas lights are as unpleasant to the eye as ellipsoidal headlights are to drivers.
Give me a string of multicoloured lights across the street anyday!

You couldn't be more right SOTP. Perhaps the Chamber of Commerce could spend the money they waste on their "Fatstock" backslapping and sort some proper, colourful, across the street type lights.

its very very poor seeing as lewes is meant to be the county town of sussex.

It was lovely to walk the streets without traffic and see families all out together and people enjoying themselves. But I did think the lights were disappointing - I was expecting to see the whole high street festooned, not just a few shop fronts.

I'm really confused about this. I thought I read that both Tescos and Waitrose had put up the money for new lights this year, but as people are asking, where are they? Did a delivery fall through and they're just delayed, or is what we're seeing now all we're going to get? If anything there seem to be less lights this year compared to last year. This was a great PR opportunity for the supermarkets that so far seems to have backfired.

The natural shape of the trees has been obscured with a regimented light arrangement, making said trees look totally synthetic.
Reverting back to a simple string of lights would be more appealing.
