I am absolutely stunned that virtually nobody attended the meeting at the town hall yesterday to oppose the new cable car system running from the Grange gardens to Lewes castle. Am I the only person who believes this would be and awful eyesore and also a terrible source of noise pollution on a beautiful and historic town?

I think it's a great idea and fully support LDC in their efforts to bring it to fruition.

I wasn't aware this had been suggested, do the 15% "special expenses" on this years council tax "demand" cover this?
Or maybe it just covers the consultation costs...
How many millions will it cost, I would assume it would be privately funded and run as a business (so no cost to the public)?
But assuming the cars are not plastic carbuncles (Victorian styling not alpine ski resort) it won't be an eyesore, if done correctly it would add a lot aesthetically to a beautiful part of the town - I would definitely ride it.

Is it going to be run by the same people who run the one in Matlock?

Sadly, it's this kind of apathy towards local politics that led to the approval of the change of use application to turn Anne of Cleves house into a salad bar with no opposition. Still, I like the name they chose, Anne of Leaves, and that end of Southover High Street is a bit of a healthy snack food desert at present..

You can take it from me that the LCCS (Lewes Cable Car System) is being considered. Apparently using the same Government capital fund as the i360 used. The overall benefits would be significant and it will be a great tourist draw for the town. There are a number of other schemes being considered by the Town Council..........

Hastings has two funiculars. At least Lewes, the County town, should have one.

Unfortunately I hear that Brexit has put the kybosh on this innovative and inspiring scheme - the fall in the value of the pound, and the reluctance of EU workers with the necessary skills to come to the UK now, mean that it will instead be implemented with Boy Scouts hauling a wheel-barrow up and down Keere St.

The OP was the first I'd heard of this, but it sounds like a great idea to me.

First I have heard of it but I have often thought a cable car would be neat. I had thought maybe up to the martyrs obelisk but Grange to castle sounds good. great idea.
