Lewes Golf Club Vandalism

At the same time that Wildlife Trusts call for action to tackle species decline, the Lewes Golf Club Management wrecked a huge piece of mature wildlife habitat and razed it to the ground. Perhaps they thought this the ideal moment as everybody’s eyes are on Corona Virus. The Golf Club Management seem to be so well connected that they assume they can get away with large scale vandalism, ruining an area important to bats, tawny owls, small mammals and diverse vegetation. And to Lewes residents and visitors alike. Walk up Chapel Hill, take the steep footpath on the left and you will enter a place of utter devastation. I would imagine that even some of the more environmentally aware members of that particular Golf Club will feel deeply ashamed to be part of such an organisation. Trying to add a photo now.

What do you mean by ‘well connected’?
Who would they be connected to that would condone such eco-terrorism?

Presumably the contributor means connections within the local authority. Certainly, in face of vociferous opposition to the club's change of use initiative ( creating a bar for all and sundry rather than remain simply as a clubhouse) the council's representatives, at the scheduled hearing, chose to support the club's plea , and in a way that suggested that their minds had already been made up. In fact, of course, all the predicted unpleasantness that goes with that innovation, a huge increase in traffic - large delivery and service vehicles too - on a single lane road with households on either side...all that has come to pass.
And now we have this crass act ...

Looked at from one angle. More photos will follow, I am sure.
The club appears to be impervious to criticism, or even reasoning; to see itself as invulnerable, unassailable.

I sense an underlying anti Golf Club agenda - I trust you are totally certain that the tree felling has taken place on land owned by Lewes Golf Club.
I suggest you contact the Forestry Commission as felling trees of this size is likely to require a felling licence.

And what's more, they've created a way to stop any trees, shrubs and ground-cover from growing back. Ever. Horrid people.
