Lewes Floods?

I see the high tide today in Lewes will be around 11 to 11.15 and is quite high (2 metres higher than the lowest high tides). Lots of run-off due to soil saturation..... luckily like most rivers there is a flood plain to cope with these circumstances.

Trouble is, many of the flood plain's are flooded over towards Hamsey and on the other side towards Beddingham and Kingston.

There are currently flood watches in place for the upper and lower ouse but nothing for Lewes

The Riverside shops have put up their flood barrier as a precaution. Worst tides are Mon - Weds; the weather seems to be better then though.

More importantly why hasn't the wall outside the JHT been made higher?? (It's lower than the new flood wall). It's nice to sit on and have a beer on, but doesn't it negate the whole project? Also the wall at Chandlers is made of some sort of temporary metal work. Non comprendez....

Are the Cliffe defences finished now?

I thought the wall was going round the John Harvey side of the Argos car park!

The river has gone over the far bank (malling side) opposite landport

There are demountable flood barriers that go behind the existing wall opposite the JHT. Apparently they could not make that bit wall higher due to the foundations and to rebuild it too expensive.

Isnt the Chandlers section delayed, something to do with the land being redeveloped at some point?

When do they mount those barriers Merlin and who is it that actually does it?

Just came back from the pub via the bridge. The decking outside the Riverside is floating and water is coming up through the JHT drains. Interesting. Where do I buy sandbags? Bunces is shut. And they are always too busy talking to themselves to be of any use in the morning.
