If you look on youtube they seem to have a very active fire service

We went in 2004 for a visit out of curisoity. We missed our planned ferry from Cape May so only had 1 hour there instead of the intended 3. This turned out to be 30 minutes too long. Everything was shut as it was the end of March. It is a summer resort for New Jersey residents. It calls itself the oldest town in the oldest state in America. It also has a "British Shop" selling marmite, cadbury's etc (this too was shut). As far as I know it is the only other town in the world spelt "Lewes".

Many of the buildings are wooden colonial style. This may explain why the fire service are so active.
