So I went to the Lewes Little Theatre cinema last night to check for myself what it was like. To my shame having lived in Lewes for nearly 20 years it was the first time I'd set foot inside the Little Theatre. I think there were only a out 12 paying customers and the atmophere was a bit lacklustre.
The screen is probably about 4.5 metres wide and 2 metres tall. Not huge but big enough to give a cinema experience. Unfortunately about 20 minutes into the film there was a problem. The movie kept stuttering like a CD with scratches and they had to stop it and turn the house lights on. Its a figital projector and I would guess that they video file was slightly corrupted. Apart from being told that it would probsbly be fixed in a few minutes thee was no information about what was going on. When the film restarted it was in a different place. No idea how much was skipped but from reading a summary of the film at least one scence was skipped. My guess would be that the projectionist had to find a part of the movie that wasn't skipping and play from there. I think it would have helped to know that this was the case. Someone else moaned and swore about the film not restarting where it left off.

The other thing was that I was constantly distracted by a very bright spot on the middle of the screen. Not sure what this was perhaps a reflection from the projector itself. It seemed to get worse as te film went on.
I could see the potential problem of having to strain your neck if sitting in the front few rows. If it were possible to mount the screen slightly lower it would alleviate the problem. I would imagine that there is a logistical reason for not doing this, angle of projection or front row heads getting in the way perhaps. If the latter maybe the front row could be set off limits.
All in all I thought it was a better cinema experience than the All Saints. I think there are a few things that need to be ironed out but i think I will certainly be visiting again. I am a bit worried that it might be hard to make a profit from it. I suppose it depends n what dort of deal they are getting from the Little Theatre. Still I recommend checking it out.
