A brand new year begins and full of hope for the future I'm reminding myself of some past predictions of dismal gloom that failed to materialise. The Independent produced a classic in March 2000 which, in view of the UK weather forecast fills me with optimism-"Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past". The ever ridiculous Guardian US in February,2004 contradicted this with
"Pentagon tells Bush- climate change will destroy us....European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a Siberian climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega drought, famine and widespread rioting will erupt throughout the world". All that didn't pan out, and there's reams of it, so how can they reduce us to quivering jelly? How about the common cold passed off as the Colourless Death, Fu Manchu's evil weapon of mass disease, brewed in secret laboratories with vampire bats? Happy New Year.

Aren't they telling us now our grandchildren won't see snow in the UK ?

@the old mayor, you do realise that the possibility of seeing "snow" in years to come will probably be the least of your grandchildrens issues when it comes to climate change. The consequences aren't about the potential tragedy of the future youth not understanding the plot of the Snowman....just so you know

Not more conspiracy theories greenie, you've been Ickeing again. The Snowman's not plotting anything dude, in case you don't know, it's hard to tell when you're blazed but it's just a charming TV programme.

The question of whether our grandchildren will see snow is not a simple one, If our climate simply warmed at the same rate as the world as a whole, there would hardly ever be any snow in Sussex. However: most of the extra heat trapped by greenhose gases has gone into the oceans, and from there to the polar regions, and that's changing weather patterns as well as melting glaciers. It's very possible that the ocean circulation that keep us warm will fail, and then Britain could get very cold (at least part of the time) while other parts of the world become uninhabitable because of heat. Essentially, burning fossil fuels is like throwing a spanner in the works of a life support machine that weonly partially understand. It is a stupid and evil act and one for which there is no reason to expect forgiveness from the grandchildren.

We hear much about renewable energy, like wind farms. But energy has to come from somewhere; wind moving away from a wind farm will be slower than the wind which moved into it. This will produce climate change too, although I have no idea what it would be.

I see the glaciers in the north of Greenland are growing quicker than the southern ones are melting but the alarmists only focus on the negative side. I think the really evil thing is deluding children into believing they have a grim future for geo political ends. If you could be bothered to find RAW data, you'd see how all the computer modelling is giving a false picture. Greenland was warmer when CO2 levels were lower, though I'm sure some extremely well paid alarmists could concoct data to show the opposite. The agenda to deindustrialise the west was decided during WW2, long before "global warming" was thought of as a useful driver of the policy by the ultra elite Club of Rome and the autocratic, decidedly undemocratic UN. But let's face it the boob tube is much more fun than research.

Focus on "the negative side", or the broader overall picture? Where there is overwhelming scientific general consensus, you're almost certain to be seeking a contradictory position (the "conspiracy theory", essentially). Its attention seeking at best, but also quite narcissistic in a way, due to thinking ones analysis is superior to that of actual experts (and lets face it, it never just ends with climate change, covid and moon landings etc). Unless of course, your breadth and depth of knowledge is sheer genius.....but I've read enough of your posts....in fact, I'll just stop there. I've read enough of your posts. Goodnight.

You've never read my posts greenie. You have a mask on your eyes and only see what you're told to. If it's not the authorised script you go into cognitive dissonance and have a little verbal tantrum reeling out the regulation insults as devoid of independent thought as your opinions. Good riddance and good night to you.
