Went in this morning to collect a few things before work, woman at the till didn't even look up from the video on her phone to serve me, she didn't even stop the video. Not exactly rushed off her feet, she couldn't manage a smile or any conversation and there was no gratitude upon leaving!
I was made to feel like I was disturbing her "me" time.
In desperate need of some customer service needs here.
Not for my benefit as I will not be using the store again.

Agree with you, she's always like that, and she's the owner. I usually apologise for disturbing her conversation, but she doesn't get the irony.

It's a shame because all the other staff are really great. If you fancy a change of scene, try the miserable, rude old fella who owns the landport shop. Always makes you feel like you've ruined his day by actually having the cheek to buy something

@ menthal, totally agree, both Mrs and Mr Patel are among the rudest people I've ever met. Sunny, however, is up there with the best of them, top guy.

Another successful local business smeared. Leave it out. The little shops certainly don't need that in their constant fight for survival against the supermarkets.

I don't think Mrs Patel's heart is in it and I would imagine that she's bored. She's a qualified pharmacist, I believe, and doesn't seem to share Raj's enthusiasm for running the family business. She seems to have good days and bad days, but often appears very distracted - I have learned to count my change afterwards. But the shop as a whole is very good and I try and use it in preference to the big supermarkets.

A smashing shop with lovely always helpful, chatty and polite staff.
Some massive snobs inhabit this forum but no surprise this is Lewes with it's over abundance of uptheirownbottoms.
What a sad spiteful life you must have if you need to come on here, insult a good local business and then flounce off never to darken their door again.
You won't be missed.

This lady is always on the phone. Completely uninterested in customers and not at all helpful. It's such a shame as. Like others have said, Raj is completely the opposite.
People here are mentioning lewes forum snobbery. Not sure that expecting polite and courteous serbice in a shop is the behaviour of a snob but purely expecting mutual respect from another person and appreciation that people are choosing to use and support local shops.

I wouldn't go as far as to say in desperate need of customer service but yes she could do with being a bit more attentive. But not a good enough reason to not shop in this brilliant place - they never fail to amaze me how they manage to have all the things in I could ever need in such a small space. And best croissants I've had outside of France on a weekend. Seriously good.

There are some terrible comments on here about some hard working and valuable members of our community we all have our foibles but Dolly and Raj run a fantastic small business and seem to be very successful and in that type of industry hard work and attention to customers needs are paramount. They are open to suggestions about stock and have acted on this, personally I couldn't think of a better local all in one than theirs. They make an effort to provide work to local people and are a hub of the West End community.
This is exactly the type of business and owners who the pretentious Viva Lewes types should be celebrating rather than another over privileged antiques, pottery or rare book dealer.
