My understanding of Lease hold is when your lease expires you either discuss with the owner to renew the lease if possible or move to a newe place. The owner of the property is not oblige to renew the Lease.

Yes, that is correct. Usually there will be repairs that have to be carried out to the property depending on the lease type by the occupier. I hope if you are the tenant and looking to move you have a good condition report & photos of which both party has signed from before you moved in otherwise i have heard of people getting screwed for £30K+ on a full repair lease

if the Santon development goes ahead how much will the average house price in the rest of the town go down by?

When , not if the development goes ahead I doubt there'll be much change in property prices because lewes will still be a desirable place to live , maybe even more so with the new riverside accessibility . We're very lucky to be able to live here aren't we .

@Jeff
If you are trying to sell your house now you'll be competing with maybe 10 other similar nearby houses but if you're selling around the time the proposed development is finished you'll be competing with hundreds of other houses.
That will undoubtedly have an enormously negative effect on how much you can sell your house for.

Depends on what type of house you have. Someone looking for or selling a period house will not be affected, as Santon won't be building many of them. If you have a small house on Landport or Malling to sell you will only be affected if Santon's offer includes lots of new units at your price, which is unlikely. If you have a 10 year old luxury flat, and Santon have lots of brand new ones in the same price range, but otherwise the same facilities, you may have to cut your price to find a buyer.

Funny how the threads go off topic. Nice to see it brought back with an anser by Artickle. Had a job with this one, but an Article of Faith is part of the Mormon religion. It's better than doing the Grauniad crossword.
