Laura Ashley parking

HELP I got done earlier this week. I'm an out of towner and it never occurred to me I would get a ticket at 7pm. I did not see the warning signs - high up, and looking nothing like a normal parking notice
Is the agreed best practice still to just ignore their letters?
Many thanks

It's a private parking space, so is different from local authority parking.
In a private parking space it is the responsibility of the driver, not the owner, to pay any fees demanded.
In most cases you will receive a letter asking you who the driver was. If you do not respond to any letters the owner's only option is to take you to court. To do this they would need to prove that you were the driver, to do this they would need to have a witness or CCTV footage.
If you ignore their letters most property owners won't take it any further.

Jeff - I called in to the Boot sale on Sunday ( also an out of towner) and I noted that area was completely empty of cars . people appeared to be using Waitrose car park , but to be honest I was ill at ease being in there because I`d heard so much about the ridiculous parking scenarios in Lewes . I won`t be visiting the town much. Your assumption of best practice is correct

Don't pay, they wont pursue it because the DVLA will have to sell your details to the ticket issuer in order for them to find out where you live. This practice has not been tested in an English court of law and never will be. I have had 4 tickets outside Laura Ashley so far since the clampers were outlawed, I never heard a thing from them.

At last!
Somewhere free to park other than Cliffe High Street.
Don't tell anyone though.

This is a very interesting read about what you can legally do if you're clamped

Signs have been put trying to warn not to park but they get removed as those parking spaces are a money generating trap. Allegedly owned by a rather well known landlord who's been abroad for a long time.

Why is public money being spent on it? Maybe because there are people prepared to campaign for a safe cycling route from Lewes... more
