Well it must be fashionable to have only one star if Bills only got one star in their flagship restaurant. Hope the others in the chain haven't copied everything to the letter ! Plus all that old tat in there must be loaded with decades of dirt !

Might the one star hygiene rating for Bills have something to do with the awkard location of the toilets?

I'm not worried about the Charcoal Grill. The amount of alcohol its customers will have consumed before going there will surely kill off any bacteria.

Not surprised the Spice Merchant is on there. Horrible place. When was the last time a cat was seen in that area?

You only have to see the veg deliveries stacked up against the spice merchant door when there's no one in. Seen now a dog p1ss over them on two separate occasions

Station Wines I'm not so bothered about, as its mostly sealed stuff they shift and not preparing food, so hardly going to be a big problem (although they should strive to improve hygene of course). But I have been to a few of these restaurants, and its a pity they have let their standards slip. Surely one of the basics of running any place that prepares food is to have a reasonable standard of cleanliness.
I have been to the Spice Merchant a few times, and although its not my favourite curry house in Lewes, its disappointing to see them up there. Hopefully this "naming and shaming" list will inspire all of them to up their game or face closure (be it via inspections or bad publicity).

These are organisations that aren't getting the basics right and need "major improvement". It just shows a complete disregard for their customers.

All the foodies and celeb chefs bang on about street food, wonder what the hygiene ratings would be?

Sadly there is no requirement in English law for the ratings to be displayed in the window, which could be why ***** does not show theirs.

I've eaten in lots of these places without problems and still will. 'Name and shame'? Where is our famous anti-establishment scepticism? This is either restaurants failing to grease the wheels, or failing to comply with every expensive unnecessary bit of new requirement and red tape that the local government idiots love to impose. I wonder how many of them could run a business (where the business isn't job creation at the expense of the community)?

Actually, PJ's at Thirty only got a 1 in December because they had only opened as a new business 2 hours before the Health Inspector came. Look in their window now. Yesterday they were awarded a FIVE

Perhaps they should have to display their ratings clearly by law.

Hahahahahahahaha, Bill's only gets 1 star, hahahahahahaha fantastic.
Are all the hipsters and beard victims gonna come out and say the star rating is a load of rubbish now, just so they can carry on eating there.
