I don’t know who else decided not to attending due to not having a road closure but I decided not to attend. It looks shocking that the council won’t support local traders by not going ahead with them. Does any one know why was the bonfire societies not asked to help ? Poor show from the council and I wonder where the £1000 got spent for the road closure on Remembrance Sunday ?

Did attend because wanted to support my local shops but not the same as usual, what a shame LDC should be disgusted with themselves. And as far as the lighting in the town the same goes!.

Just how many times a year is the high street actually closed? Too many I say for 2016/17
It was pandemonium this afternoon with gridlock, while a pantechnicon unloaded outside the courts, to Ask, then kindly moved after half an hour to Cheese Please for a second round.

Nothing to do with councils. It's the Chamber of Commerce. Traders, shoppers and residents all very unhappy with them and rightly so.

Shame, shame on you Chamber of Commerce, you know who you are. I am very disappointed by tonights event, dismal evening, zero effort made by the chamber of commerce, which charity were we trying to raise money for??? Nice to see so many shops open and a big thank you to all the people who came out to support this event tonight. Lets hope next year will be better but to be honest it can't get much worse.

I’m pointing out the fact it’s become an unfriendly family event. For a little money spent on road closures ! I do regularly support the local businesses, but I’m pointing out the fact not closing the road stops people exploring !

As well as writing on here make sure you email the Chamber of Commerce and tell them what you think. Complaints on here will be ignored, an email to them will be recorded.

One wonders how many local independents actually pay anything to The Chamber of Commerce ? I don't think it's a free club ? Personally, I don't actually know if it's value for money anyway. Maybe someone else knows the other benefits of joining ?

The Chamber of Commerce did release a statement - they said that the roads weren't going to be shut to allow access to all areas of the town. What a load of crap. Last year was brilliant at the top of town and something that could have been built on for this year. The lack of road closures has really been a kick in the teeth for the high street traders. It's hard enough without the support from the chamber of commerce. I know that one or two of the Bonfire Societies would have been happy to man the closures again so who knows what they are up to?! As for the lights..... We were quoted nearly £90 for those white icicle lights to be fitted to our shop (from ldc and the chamber). The lights themselves only cost £15 (waterproof ones) so does it really cost £75 per shop to fit them?

Put something negative about Lewes Chamer of Commerce on Twitter - that might prompt a response. Works with big companies. No one likes bad publicity.
