Hello,
Just wondering if there is anywhere in Lewes to get an evening coffee or wine/beer besides pubs or restaurants? Maybe a venue that occasionally has entertainment like films, musicians or spoken word events?
Thanks

Look at the "what's on" section on here, and in Viva Lewes, and you'll see that there's all sorts of stuff going on. However, as most of the venues in town are pubs, that's where most of them happen.
There was a non-pub bar in Fisher Street, but I think it closed down, possibly because most people, like me, find the wide variety of pubs in town meet their needs just fine.
I must admit, if I fancy a coffee in the evening I adopt the radical approach of making my own and drinking it in my house.

I wish there was. Nothing angers me more than having to wait at a bar for my pint to be served in a pub whilst some inconsiderate numpty in front orders a coffee!!!!!!

The new depot cinema sounds great. Glad that 'most' people are happy with the pubs, and have no intention of holding up things at the bar by ordering coffee ; ) Nevertheless there are some of us who'd also like different things. I'm not saying radically alter Lewes for those who like things as they are, just would like to have a place for people who don't want to go home at 5pm, perhaps don't have a family or partner, or want to go to a pub. Shame about the place in Fisher street.

The place in Fisher Street was an awful dirty place. guess that's why it didn't last. Places for coffee in the evenings...Riverside until 9pm & Bills until 11pm and wine bar next to new Thai in Lansdowne Place serves wine and coffee until 11pm. Belladonna, if opening in the evening is such a goer, why not open one yourself.

I liked the place in Fisher Street. I used to go there on weekend mornings. Didn't think it was dirty at all, or in competition with others as it had a different atmosphere and much smaller. Talking of small, the 'Grounds' coffee shop in Friars walk does great coffee and is open early in the morning, but not after 4pm. I think there's room in Lewes for all of these different types of cafes , pubs, and restaurants. I'm sure it's attractive to visitors to the town too which is no bad thing for local businesses.

Paul: If you had ever visited the toilets you may have had a different view fo the place in Fisher Street.
