Good ole Lewes residents....... following the District Council's threat of litigation towards a Lansdown Place resident who dared to display an original artwork on the exterior wall of their house, growing numbers of local residents are now placing copies of the "offending work" in their windows!

Where will it end? Will seven local residents be forced to park their vehicles outside Southover House - each displaying a letter of the alphabet in their car windows that collectively would spell out what local people think of them?

Well they certainly aren't very clever when it comes to PR. I would be embarrassed to be a Councillor.

Read all about this 'illegal' art work, on the thread, Lewes, the New Tibet, and Planning Fiasco threads. Bullying Planning officers are trying to silence legitimate comment about the issue of development.

Today I heard that the Lewes House site has been officially approved without another planning application meeting (no surprise there).
Incredible that the land is owned by Lewes District Council (effectively us) but that a few people elected to represent their constituents approve overdevelopment against the wishes of the same constituents.

Aren'tcha just SICK of Lewes District Council's intolerance of legitimate protest? It's not the first time they've used heavy-handed techniques to try and shut people up and even though their attempts usually end in humiliation, they never seem to learn any sort of lesson.
Cockjugglers, the lot of 'em.

It was only one application that was not approved, so it would be interesting to know what has happened about the wall. It is right in the middle of the turning circle. What a mess!

They are going to knock it down! It was a Conservation Area Consent application they needed but following legal advice obtained by the Developer it appears that this is not needed. I had a letter on Thursday and telephoned the council to get clarification and the up shot is that it can be knocked down as CAC application is not now needed and they had agreed do knocking down in other parts of the application.

whatwas the last time? These Officers are claiming the 'overworked' card. (who isn't) so how have they got time to waste on this?

It would appear that the council have taken the view that it is easier to bully a local resident, rather than take on wealthy arrogant developers.
The councillors should be policing the officers, ensuring that they perform their roles effectively, if they did we might even get a fair and reasonable service from them - sound decisions could be made, the residents might feel represented and supported by their council, rather than betrayed.
I think Pikelet has got it summed up!
