What a pleasant time it has been when the Landsdown was shut. Glasses smashing, abuse, fights - I'm not fooled that all of them are legal drinking age. Just round them up and shoot them. It's not they're paying tax. Alternatively, get pi55ed quietly and respect.

hope you're not suggesting the Pub should close again though - we have lost enough pubs in Lewes in recent years

I'm confused too. Are you saying that when the Lansdown was closed there was less glass smashing, abuse and fights IN the pub, or in general?
I've been in a couple of times since it has reopened and it's much improved. They finally got rid of the tree as well!

olithe drifter, I beg to differ. I live near the Lansdown and in the last couple of years particularly after the smoking ban, there has been plenty of 'incidents' there. Recently both the chinese takeaway and the Indian had there windows smashed by tanked-up yobs coming out of the Lansdown. cars vandalised, fights and general shouting and swearing till the early hours, not to mention all the fag butts on the ground and litter in general. When it closed it was really peaceful. Now the 'new broom' has arrived it is dead and sterile. hopefully we will soon get someone who can put some life back in it, and keep an orderly house. I appreciate that a busy vibrant pub inevitably produces a certain amount of unruly behaviour, but Ben and Viv ran it well, whilst keeping yobbishness to an 'acceptable' level.
On a pleasing note, I hear Ben and Viv have taken on the Crown, so maybe that will become a popular venue.

indeed, those incidents were regrettable but neither involved the local contingent-shouting and swearing until the early hours is mainly caused by people passing by tanked off coming from the pubs at the top of the town heading back to newhaven, seaford etc im definatley not saying there wasnt a certain proportion from the lansdown faithful. of course it was peaceful when it was closed! but i definatley agree with you on ben and viv and the litter, when the crown opens im sure you will get a bit more peace!
