Sadly I see that the lamb has closed again. Reading about it in the Sussex express I get the impression that it has gone due to opposition from a few local residents and the paper seems to be supporting them. The pub was there before the residents, was well run, always stopped the music by 11 pm and brought great enjoyment to a large number of people. Shouldn't our local paper be more supportive of a venue which provides entertainment rather than a few selfish people?

The reasons for closing were multiple and well documented in the media. Residents opposition due to serious anti social behaviour outside and blatant illegal activity inside. This coupled to it being empty for 5 days a week, so not financially viable for any tenant manager. The owners had a very valuable property and have seem to have taken advantage of the Police and Licensing boards concerns to get rid of a thorn in their side. It is interesting to note that the property has been sold within days of it being closed down. The owners clearly knew what they were doing. Whilst its closure is a shame for Snips, who worked hard to re-establish it, and for the many local bands that don't have an outlet now, it could be argued that it was the selfishness of the management in failing to deal with the issues inside and out that has caused the closure. It will be interesting to see what the new owners of the building do with it.

Lamb was open 4 nights a week and at the Pam & De femmes show the other Sunday there were over 80 peeps there on a wet night. Least I have a happy memory of the finish with the Captain's Beard giving it large. Drug takers and hooligans will have to find some other place in Lewes for their antics while us music lovers have one less place to go for a fix
