Can anyone recommend a decent dentist in town? Preferably one that's taking on new patients. Thanks in advance.

Whatever you do - don't go NHS! Treatment in NHS practices is governed by NHS schedule rates (eg it's cheaper to extract a tooth rather than perform more costly procedures to conserve it).
From experience, I recommend dentists from Australia or New Zealand as their training is more conservation orientated.
As for the costs of private versus NHS - I would say there is little, if any, difference (unless, of course, you are on state benefits).

Interesting comment! Living in New Zealand I have finally found a decent dentist I trust, British, trained at Guys. First one having tried many here that I've found since good old Mr. Charter who I feel great about. She wouldn't pull a tooth if she could save it.

I go to St Annes Dental Practice. They seem quite good and I believe are taking new patients, NHS and private.
