Can't the council do something about the piles of sleeping bags and junk lying unattended around the town? I detest litter and am pleased to see less of it around (probably thanks to the volunteer litter pickers) but why do we have to put up with piles of what looks like fly tipped rubbish in the town centre?

It's regularly removed, but the druggie just pinches more stuff from the donations left outside the Cancer Research shop. Something should be done to end this - that man needs help.

This "junk" is all that this man has to protect him from the elements.

It's not all he has. He has a flat, apparently, but sits outside Boots to get money to fund his drug habit. I've driven past countless times before 9.00am and after 7.00pm and he's never been there. I do feel sorry for him - it must be a wretched life - but letting him carrying on like this is bad for him and bad for the town. The authorities need to intervene and he needs to be sectioned and given treatment, before he kills himself.

Funny as I have seen him asleep there at 11pm numerous times. How about you ask the bloke?

He has a roof over his head. He certainly wasn't sleeping outside Boots last night though his pile of rubbish was there.
If you don't believe he has somewhere to live asked the local copper tasked with connecting with these wasters

They need to round up all the so called (homeless ) druggies and give them all a one off opportunity. Go immediately into free residential rehab or be exterminated.
A little bit harsh I hear a few of you whimper but simply turning a blind eye and allowing these wasters to turn our town centres into ghettos is not the way forward

Is it a crime to steal donations from charity shop doorways ? Community service would keep him busy. Prison would keep him clean and warm.

@Giggles "Be exterminated"? That's an extremely inappropriate and offensive suggestion, especially on Holocaust Memorial Day. I presume you know what that is.

@Earl: you're a loss to the mental health services if your diagnostic skills are so good that you can determine someone meets the criteria for a mental health act intervention without undertaking a full assessment. I've not seen any behaviour that suggests that this man is a risk to himself or others, but I bow to your superior knowledge.
Of course, there's a huge shortage of beds in acute units for those who are, but then I'm sure you know that. Not so long ago, the nearest NHS bed for someone needing it was in Glasgow.
The same applies for the "free residential rehab" that Biggles recommends. Waiting lists around 9-12 months, currently.
