Jogging on A27

In training for a marathon, I want to run on pavement A27 from Lewes going east, as looks to be a good long distance, if I am running back to lewes, once I get to souterham the pavement disappears. Does it then go through Lewes industrial estate does anyone know and then I cut run across the road and run along the river towards The Snowdrop and South Street?

Yes it does - turn R at the end of the bike path and follow left and then out of the ind estate and cross the road. Look out for broken glass on the pavement at the start. Then there's a bike (and jogger) path along the road (not the river).

Unless you run at 2 a.m., have you considered the effects of vehicle emissions on your health? Also, the hard surface? There are another routes along footpaths over the Downs that will be softer on the feet, strengthen your ankles, be quieter and have fresher air and with steep hills will provide vastly better training. I speak as an ex-club runner myself.

If you do run off-road though, be careful not to tread in a rabbit hole and go over on your ankle. Happened to a mate of mine and put him out of action for quite a while.

I think your compass is a bit out! If you're using Lewes as a starting point there are far better runs than the A27. Try heading north on country lanes through Offham, Hamsey, TownLittleworth to Newick and looping back via Barcombe. It works out at about 13 miles.
I can recommend joining Lewes Athletic Club. They're a great bunch of people. You'll get plenty of useful advise and encouragement.
