A WELL-known Lewes musician has died.
Jez Bird, 50, passed away on Wednesday (August 27) following a battle against cancer.
He was the former lead singer of the 80s mod band the Lambrettas, and a very popular performer in the town where he had lived since the age of seven.
His family told the Express full details of his funeral service, which is to be organised by Cooper and Son funeral directors, will be announced at a later date.

On behalf of Jez's many fans in Ireland, I just want to say how sad we are to hear of his passing. We heard his wonderful Lambrettas' album Beat Boys In The Jet Age at a special time in our lives and it remained with us into adulthood.
Jez was a genius powerpop songwriter and his music will live on forever.

At this sad time our thoughts are with your family.
As one of the old 1264 SC it was always a an honour for us to have a mod band out of Lewes in those days.
Indeed one of my best memories was when Jez played at a joint 40th (for three old members) party about for years ago and said, I dont think I have seen as many of the old faces since the the mod era.
He then played some of the old classics such as poison ivy, page 3, cortina, dance and beat boys in the jet age.
Thanks for all the memeroies RIP

Can only amplify the sentiments of Andy P, great memories of going to see the Lambrettas playing in Brighton, London, Priory School and Lewes Town Hall and Jez's sets at the Pelham.
Jez was a nice bloke and really did the business at that party Andy refers to ast the Bluebell (now the Wok Inn) in 2002.
RIP Jez

I'm so saddened by this news. Jez was always welcome here at my shop in Uckfield, and I always thoroughly enjoyed our chats about music, equipment, people and generally putting the world to rights over a cuppa! Such a lovely, lovely guy in what can be an un-lovely world! He will truly be missed by those of us who had the fortune to make his acquiantance. My thoughts go out particularly to his wife and young family, whom he so obviously adored.
God bless you and thank you for the music Jez!
