I enquired at one jewellers (not Ms. Dukes - thank you ) but they charge a fortune including a percentage of the value of the jewellery so just wondered if anyone had any jewellery valued recently and where they would recommend. Thanks

Marian, do you need this for insurance purposes? In that case, I'd expect to pay for a written valuation, and I expect to pay for the expertise and experience of the valuer. That said, I had a small family piece valued in Marston Barrett and they were happy to give a verbal estimate for nothing.

We had our done a couple of months ago at John Clarks by Cliffe Bridge. They give a full written valuation with photographs of each piece. Really good idea if you need it for insurance.

The only decent reputable jewellers in Lewes is Marston Barrett. They will give you either a free verbal valuation or an extremely detailed written valuation with photos for a small charge. They are the only jewellers I would have dealings with.
